Set goals and prioritize your time from beginning to end. The focus is on the assignment you are given. Start the assignment immediately no matter how small the first step is. (rough notes, collecting information etc.) Make a schedule for working on the assignment and commit to it.
What time of day do you want to work on the assignment? What materials do you need to work on it? Decide on the time you will be motivated and collect the material(s) prior to sitting down to begin working. Any unnecessary distractions leave them somewhere other than your work space. Work within the time you give yourself and take breaks to reward yourself!
getting to work
Use some sort of planner to make a schedule that helps you prioritize and know what you're doing day to day. Break the assignment into the smallest steps possible. Single tasking = identifying the most important task and completing it Prior to working get yourself in mindset of being productive. Mindfulness exercises might be helpful. Ask yourself these questions:
What do I want to accomplish?
What do I need?
Am I being honest with what is important? (needs VS wants)
Keep in mind who is the impacted when:
I miss deadlines
not doing my chores at home
calling into work
Be an effective decision maker. Understand your decisions impact others. Being an effective decision maker will help you in every aspect of the process.
Communicate with teachers, parents, employers. The more they know the more support they can offer. Say "no" to those trying to unload some of their own work on you. Gain clarity around: deadlines, how to achieve the mark you want to receive and options on delivery of presentations. Renegotiate commitments (social time, work shifts, chores) in the short term when needed. Have those conversations early on and be honest.
Build a "tool kit" of coping/calming strategies & practice them. Be patient. Stick to with the process. Pressure = motivation and alertness = productivity Stress = physical, emotional or mental distress = possibility of getting off track Forgive yourself and others if things don't go the way you planned.
